Now considering a third cup...
The main reason coffee makes you sleepy is because it's a diuretic and therefore makes you dehydrated.
Drinking to wake up and stay woke can lead to a crazy cycle that ends up making you feel more tired. The cycle looks likes this:
The coffee smells sooooo good, mmmm I'm looking forward to this warm hug in a mug. After you consume the coffee, you need to go to the bathroom.
When you use the bathroom, you lose water. Ack!
As a result of your body losing water, your blood thickens. AY.
Because your blood is all thick and sluggish now it moves through your veins at a much slower rate. Do you get the picture?
As your blood slows it's pace, less oxygen is delivered throughout your body.
Without that oxygen, you start to feel groggy and in need of more coffee.
Your eyes wander to your now empty mug, and you wonder to yourself, maybe another cup will fix this sleepy spell. Mhhhmmm. WRONG. So wrong.
FYI. Coffee makes your veins narrower, which makes it even harder for your now thicker blood to push through. Ay.
For every mug of coffee you have, drink a mug of water to minimize the effects of dehydration. As a result, you'll stay woke and get to enjoy all the caffeine all the more!
FYI. Please do not take more than 2-4 cups of coffee a day as this could lead to heart palpitations....and mayo clinic recommends it. So there. Please be safe :)
Don't reach for that cup! Had I known what I know now I would have only had one cup. What are your coffee habits? Thinking of a 1:1 coffee to water ratio? Please let me know your thoughts in the comments!
